Essential Job Functions Develops and implements physical fitness classes and programs for members and participants at the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatics Center; submits to supervisor for review; implements upon approval. Assigns and supervises the work activities of assigned part-time personnel. Conducts inspections of facility and equipment to ensure facility and equipment are in safe working condition and to ensure the safety of facility staff and program participants; monitors the use of facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with established Center policies and procedures; contacts appropriate vendor for repairs; ensures repairs and maintenance tasks are completed; reports equipment failures, needed maintenance and incidents to supervisor. Develops, schedules and accepts reservations for participation in fitness classes and programs; maintains participation rosters as required. Develops special outreach recreation and fitness programs for individuals with special needs; implements upon approval from supervisor. Develops individual fitness plans for members and participants based on their specific needs; evaluates the effectiveness of each individual's plan. Teaches or recruits and selects personnel as instructors to teach group exercise and other fitness classes and programs. Coordinates and provides special programs at various City of Little Rock facilities and other locations to include news stations to promote the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatics Center. Serves as the Manager on Duty in the absence of the Fitness Center Supervisor and the Assistant Fitness Center Supervisor. Administers basic first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to injured individuals in the center; telephones emergency personnel for individuals requiring medical attention; completes appropriate paperwork. Maintains hard copy and computerized files and records of Fitness Center records and reports. Operates a computer in the performance of essential job functions. Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of college course work in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a related area, two (2) years of experience in developing and conducting physical fitness training programs, or a related area, and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Must possess a certification as a Group Fitness Instructor (e.g. step, rhythmic, body pump, body sculpture, etc.) from a Nationally Accredited Association before employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment. Must possess American Red Cross Community First-Aid and Safety Instructor certification OR American Red Cross Standard First Aid Instructor AND American Red Cross Community CPR Instructor Certifications, or equivalent certifications, within (90) ninety days of employment and maintain certifications for the duration of employment in this position. Must possess certification as a Personal Trainer from a Nationally Accredited Association, before employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment. After five (5) years of service, an employee will receive 2% of the STD account (maximum 1,000 hours) per years of service, upon termination of employment.
