Support our city owned convention center. You can search for this position's full job description here. SUPERVISION * General supervision is provided by the Manager - Convention and Visitors Bureau. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop a strategy sales action plan with set goals * Develop strong relationships with area businesses, attractions and hotels relative to Mesquite's hospitality industry through regular in person visits and maintaining open lines of communication. * Respond to client inquiries and generate informative leads for Mesquite hotels and meeting facilities. * Follow-up on groups during and after events (surveys, phone calls, emails, etc.) Utilize CVB database to maintain accurate and detailed records of prospect leads, new business, sales calls, existing client interaction, local alliances and group servicing activity. * Maintain a constant supply of sales materials including promotional items, sales kits and brochures. Coordinate supplies and equipment needed to support sales activities: displays, brochures and other marketing tools. * Provide creative marketing collaboration in the developing unique and effective sales campaigns. * Research, prospect, and successfully sell Mesquite to professional associations, sports groups/associations, small meetings market, and other niche groups such as: (Social, Military, Educational, Religious and Fraternal) groups, to hold their conferences, reunions and other meeting events here. * Attend trade shows, conferences, festivals and events as directed by the CVB Manager and follow-up on all leads. Identify, plan and execute sales missions to targeted markets to sell Mesquite as a visitor destination for overnight bookings by associations and other large groups. * Plan and execute FAM (familiarization) trips for potential meeting and convention planners. Initiate bus tours to view Mesquite for media/blog/influencer groups by creating itinerary providing exclusive event and VIP welcome packages. * Create and promote discounted attraction packages to be distributed to groups. * Maintain complete directories of hotels, restaurants, attractions, meeting venues, caterers, entertainers, speakers, transportation companies, and other support groups or organizations serving the local hospitability industry. * Conduct presentations to groups at various events. Network in various settings. * Submit monthly sales reports to the CVB manager. Assist the CVB Manager with the development of the annual budget; participate in setting goals and objectives; prepares expense reports as directed. * Coordinate all services for each group, including working with CVB volunteers: registration assistance, transportation assistance, promotional items, welcome bags, city tours, step-on guide, and other logistical activities. * Coordinate direct sales efforts through convention bids, targeted sales missions, sales calls, participation in trade shows, sports associations and other group travel industry activities designed to reach consumers, group leaders, and meeting planners. Coordinate all aspects of RFP process for perspective sales opportunities, including bid preparation, submittal and follow-up. * All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, public relations, marketing or closely related field. Experience in the marketing, public relations, convention, tourism, hotel sales, or hospitality industries may substitute for the degree requirement. EXPERIENCE * Two years related experience in the marketing, public relations, convention, tourism, hotel sales, or hospitality industries is required LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

    • Mandatory Bi-lingual Spanish in both writing and speaking. Applicants will be tested for both written and verbal proficiency. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES * Possession of a valid driver's license. REQUIRED TESTING (only if interviewed) * Word and Excel PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT This position does not require a physical for employment, Full Time Employees: The City is self-insured and offers a choice of two medical plans: HSA Plan and EPO Plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Employee medical coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Coverage is available to all full-time employees at group rates. Employees enrolled in the City's self-insured medical plan also have access to the Mesquite Employee Health Center (MEHC) clinic and pharmacy. The City offers two dental plan options: a managed plan (DHMO) and an indemnity plan (DPPO). Coverage is available to all full-time employees at group rates. The City offers free Vision Insurance to all employees. Dependents can be added for an additional fee. Basic Group Life Insurance protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of two times the annual salary as recorded at the beginning of each year. The following voluntary benefits are available to full-time employees: Supplemental Life, AD&D Insurance, Cancer Insurance and Long Term Disability Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in the TMRS. TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
