The Aurora Police Department is looking for a Public Safety Report Technician to obtain and record information from citizens needing assistance when they visit the Front Desk of District 2. This position also provides excellent customer service and ensures accurate documentation of facts. Starting Pay for this position is $17.81/hr. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Advises citizens of procedures and laws to expedite service delivery Completes and transcribes a variety of reports based upon information provided by citizens Refers calls for police service to dispatch when an officer is required Interviews crime and accident victims and reviews information on police reports Enters and retrieves information via computer aided dispatch (CAD) terminal Enters and retrieves information in law enforcement systems and databases Maintains security of police building by limiting access and monitoring police systems; operates police radio Performs additional duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Education : High school diploma or GED* Experience : At least 2 years experience in customer service including At least 1 year of data entry/retrieval experience. Experience in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment preferred. *An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Knowledge : Knowledge of proper English usage; law enforcement terminology; interviewing techniques and methods; and personal computers including related software applications. Abilities : Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Prepare accurate reports; maintain records Work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays. Skills : Skill in alpha and numeric data entry to pass a data entry test of a minimum of 5,000 net strokes per hour. LICENSES & CERTIFICATES REQUIRED : NCIC/CCIC Certification is required within 6 months of employment. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment. Working Conditions Physical Demands : Primarily sedentary work requiring the ability to lift 10 pounds with or without assistance Occasional lifting and carrying; some walking and standing Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard Vision to read and interpret reports, documents, and other written material Frequent speech communication Hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens. Work Environment : Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment. Shift work to include rotating shifts, working weekends and holidays.
