Incumbents may be assigned to patrol, traffic, juvenile, crime prevention, detectives or other police-related functions. Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and provision of information and assistance to the public; performs related work as assigned. Examples of Duties Patrols assigned areas to ensure the security of life and property, observe situations, and deter crime by providing high visibility; responds to suspicious activities and answers emergency calls for service; enforces laws and ordinances; issues verbal warnings and citations; pursues and apprehends suspects and requests assistance as required; investigates designated juvenile and adult criminal activity and incidents as the responding officer. Coordinates crime scene control and investigation, including interviews and interrogations, and identification of witnesses; oversees collection and preservation of physical evidence; restores order, protects life and property, and maintains the peace at public gatherings and in conflict and/or emergency situations. Prepares and documents cases, completes reports and records, and prepares and maintains other logs and records; investigates traffic accidents and provides traffic and crowd control as necessary. Participates in special details and assignments including detectives, narcotics, undercover details, K-9 and motorcycle traffic patrol. Retrieves, identifies and returns found property and/or evidence to owners; provides emergency aid and assistance to incapacitated persons and requests additional response; provides information, directions, and other services and assistance to the public; testifies in court, as subpoenaed. Qualifications Possession of a California POST Basic Certificate and one year of satisfactory full-time employment as a sworn officer in a Municipal, County or State Police Department within the State of California; California Class C driver's license, with acceptable driver's record throughout employment; Minimum age of 21 years at time of appointment; College-level classes in police science, administration of justice, or related field is desired; Good physical fitness and mental health as required by POST standards.
