    PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER - PART-TIME Salary $25.00 Hourly Location Cathedral City, CA Job Type PART-TIME EMPLOYEE Department Police Department Job Number 18-01 Closing Continuous Description Apply Immediately. The City screens on an ongoing basis. The Police Dispatcher is an at-will, hourly part-time position. The position works less than 960 hours in a twelve-month period. Under general supervision receives 911 system emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatches assignments according to established police procedures, operates various telecommunications center equipment and performs related work as assigned. Examples of Duties Receives and evaluates 911, police and fire emergency and business calls; transfers calls to appropriate parties; dispatches police units to emergency or non-emergency locations; handles inquiries and complaints regarding services from the public. Operates computer consoles for call input, dispatching and continuous update of suspect information and officer locations; enters call information in written or computer-based format; logs and fills out call forms. Maintains records of radio calls; operates multi-channel radio systems; monitors other channels while maintaining radio traffic on main channels; maintains radio contact with mobile and portable units; recognized units from other agencies and assists them with City units or supplies requested information. Responds to officer-initiated radio traffic and requests and disseminates suspect information from roll call boards, prior calls and bulletins; monitors closed-circuit security cameras. Maintains and accesses business and premise history and index files for emergency and other necessary contacts; handles in-house and radio paging, crime-stopper, animal control and other after-hours phone lines. Acts as receptionist on off hour/weekend shifts; provides court testimony related to calls as required. Interfaces with police command staff as required; performs related clerical duties such as typing, filing and indexing; assists in the orientation and training of new employees. Qualifications Training and Experience Any combination of training and experience that provides the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be: Equivalent to graduation from high school; Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio, and type 35 wpm; One year of experience in public safety and/or fire dispatching in a 911 system; POST Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate and/or Basic Course.
