    Position Information Title of Vacant Position Engineering Technician I - Intern Job Type Intern Posting Type Intern Department/Division Public Works Administration Requisition Number 20180130 Number of hours worked per week 25 Work Schedule Variable Work Site Location 306 Cedar Road Salary $17.3972/Hour Job Description The purpose of the City of Chesapeake's Student Internship Program is to provide matriculating college students an opportunity to apply, utilize and share acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in a local government setting. The internship Program is designed to provide a valuable educational experience for the intern, their supervisoar and the employer. The selected intern will be expected to: -Assist Public Works' Engineers with determining costs for various aspects of project development such as street and utility improvements. -Prepare and update project plans. -Research deed records of property ownership and other project information. -Track, prepare, and maintain contract documentation. -Assist the general public with project inquiries. -Prepare reports summarizing project information such as subdivision footage. -Perform related tasks as necessary such as conducting designated engineering studies. -Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Must be a matriculating junior or senior or in a Graduate Program. Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or greater. The length of the internship may vary depending on the student's curriculum. The length must be approved by the department director and the student's designated supervisor. The student will be able to work a maximum of 25 hours a week (determined by assignment). Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for: Providing their own transportation to and from work; Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the work site supervisor; Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the work site supervisor in an efficient manner; Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress and a willingness to learn; and Conforming to the guidelines of the internship work site. The college intern will be evaluated by the department's designated supervisor using the assigned department's performance evaluation form or an evaluation form provided by the university/college internship coordinator.
