PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR (Chicago Police Media Communications)
** DEPARTMENT OF POLICE _JOB _ANNOUNCEMENT __ Number of
Vacancies: 2 ** ** ** ** Under direction, the Public Relations
Coordinator will plan and perform public relations and social media
functions as part of the Office of Communications with the Chicago
Police Department. In this capacity, the position will perform the
following: ** ** _ESSENTIAL DUTIES:_ _** * Prepares and edits
speeches for departmental executive personnel * Plans, directs and
reviews the activities of personnel engaged in departmental public
relations * Works closely with the Mayors Press Secretary Office in
order to draft departmental correspondence and to coordinate and promote
programs and initiatives * Coordinates interviews of department members
for radio and television appearances * Serves as departmental
spokesperson in responding to inquiries from the media, and off camera *
Organizes press conferences to inform the public of departmental
programs and services * Collaborates with subject matter experts to
ensure proper content, design and lay-out of brochures and pamphlets
describing departmental programs and services * Reviews and approves the
audio-visual and videotaped programs related to the Office of
Communications * Reviews and approves responses to freedom of
information act requests * Participates in the preparation of the
department's annual report * Notifies appropriate staff and drafts
notices for upcoming press conferences and release of information on
behalf of the department * Accompanies executive management to public
events and/or appearances (i.e. press conferences, charity events) *
Contributes to budget process of the unit NOTE: The list of

weekends and/or holidays as needed. May be required to respond to
critical emergencies/incidents **SALARY: **$68,220.00 Annually ** **
THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism,
Communications or a related field, supplemented by five years of
progressively responsible experience in the development and
implementation of public information programs, including two years of
supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and
experience. Disclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or
regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the
applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors,
Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program. ** ** Preference will be
given to candidates possessing the following: **** * Bachelors degree
in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing or Advertising
- Supervisory experience related to the responsibilities of the position
- Previous experience in Public Relations * Proficiency with the use of
Microsoft Office software * Proficiency with the use of WordPress
software * Previous experience developing and implementing public
information programs * Previous experience as a spokesperson conducting
on air interviews * Knowledge in editing audio-visual and video
recording processes * Previous experience creating talking
points/speeches for executive level management * Ability to work a

applicants to complete an interview which will include a written

possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the
responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of
the interview will be selected. Education & Employment
