Department of Public Health Number of positions 1 The Grants Research Specialist position for the Bureau of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response will be required to coordinate grant activities with CDPH staff and other city agencies, particularly where impacts to performance are relevant; and review and evaluate proposed federal legislation impacting the Bureau and prepare reports regarding the impact to the Bureau and the Department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES The Grants Research Specialist will be responsible for assuring that all federal grant goals, objectives and critical benchmarks are met by the Bureau of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response. The CDPH Bureau of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response includes the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program and the Hospital/Healthcare System Preparedness Program The Grants Research Specialist will support the collection and analysis of data pertaining to the performance of emergency preparedness grant objectives Conduct grant monitoring of readiness goal achievement through the grant cycle for all grant funding streams Develop and monitor preparedness performance measures and quality improvement including hospital level performance measures; and identify and implement grant performance improvements Position will also assist in the development of grant applications and associated work/project timelines Review completed grant applications to ensure proposed activities are in compliance with grantor's funding requirements Monitor emergency preparedness grant funded projects and works with program staff to monitor their implementation and to ensure compliance with funding source reporting requirements Manage projects including coordinating project timelines with approved budget expenditures, ensuring that budget timelines coincide with project timelines, and ensuring deliverables are met Participate in local, state, regional and federal conferences regarding performance evaluation and improvement, program directives and funding Participate in task forces and committees related to emergency preparedness performance standards and improvements Assist with the preparation and maintenance of program reports and records for the Preparedness Bureau Perform related duties as required Location: DePaul Center 333 South State Street, 2nd Floor Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm Days Off: Saturday & Sunday THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field supplemented by one year of grants preparation, community outreach or project management experience. Selection Criteria This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following: Previous experience developing program budget reports for compliance with grant funded programs Previous experience in a position which requires preparing reports, budgets and grant applications Previous experience coordinating and monitoring the implementation of programs within regulatory guidelines Previous project management experience Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel computer software applications, Evaluation Your initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application form and documents submitted with the application.
