Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) _ _ JOB****_ ANNOUNCEMENT_ ** ** Number of Openings: 2 ** ** ** The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is dedicated to enriching Chicagos artistic vitality and cultural vibrancy. This includes fostering the development of Chicagos non-profit arts sector, independent working artists, and for-profit arts businesses; providing a framework to guide the Citys future cultural and economic growth, via the 2012 Chicago Cultural Plan; marketing the Citys cultural assets to a worldwide audience; and presenting high-quality, free and affordable cultural programs for residents and visitors. Under direction, this position will assist the city markets program coordinators and office staff in performing various program, administrative, social media, and website content development, and clerical support duties for the Chicago City Markets Program and other DCASE events. Internships are limited to one, 12 month, academic year. Students are limited to working one internship (lasting no more than one twelve month academic year) per City Department. ** ** ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Assist with scheduling and coordinating event programming and festival meetings for the culinary industry * Assist with coordination, organization, and set up of specific areas within events * Research current trends and professional best practices for farmers markets * Attend internal and external meetings with culinary program coordinators * Create, update, and maintain websites, databases and spreadsheets to track program statuses and activities * Compile market data for status reports * Assist with recruiting Chicago City Markets Vendors Farmers Markets and Maxwell Street Market * Assist with Chicago City Markets Programming Farmers Markets and Maxwell Street Market * Work some weekends, Saturdays to assist with recruiting vendors and Sundays at the Maxwell Street Market * Perform additional functions to support other DCASE festivals, programs, and events, including attendance at events, and routine clerical and administrative duties involving copying, scanning, document preparation, filing, correspondence, answering the telephone, mailings, tracking, event set up, and using social media to promote DCASE events and activities * Perform related duties as required LOCATION: Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) ** ** Facilities Division ** ** 78 E Washington Street, Chicago, IL 60602 ** ** This is a temporary position. (1) Yearlong internship, work at least 10-20 hours per week during the school year and full time/35 hours per week during summer/academic breaks; and (1) Summer Only internship through September 15, 2018, work full time/35 hours per week. Work weekdays indoors in a general office environment; and may work outdoors some evenings, weekends, and holidays during festivals, programs, and special events.
