Berry Street -Pay Rate: -$9.3636 per hour -Job Description: -SUMMARY Working under the direct supervision of the Supervisor V Business Development, the incumbent provides excellent customer service, turns off alarms and opens the Conservatory as needed, staffs public hours during evenings/weekends, staffs after-hours programs and rentals evenings/weekends, checks restrooms before and during programs/rentals to keep them clean and stocked, and locks and secures the facility at the end of public hours or the end of the program/rental. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned. Turns off alarms and opens Conservatory; closes Conservatory and sets alarms at the end of day/evening; Counts cash register at beginning of day, runs cash register if volunteer cashier doesn't arrive, provides change for cashier, takes money out of register at the end of the day and tabulates daily receipts; Passes out general information on rentals, programs and tours, sorts mail, does general clerical work and light typing, helps gift shop personnel, sells annual passes and keeps count of attendance; Locks and secures building at end of public hours or end of party; Makes sure band or DJ and bartender shuts down in time to be out by 12:00 a.m and enforces closing hours; Cleans up broken glass and extremely bad food spills; Takes full and partial sacks of garbage to the dumpster and replaces cans with new liners; Informs supervisor of any noticeable/significant damage to the facility during the rental; Contacts proper person in case of an emergency and takes corrective action to fix the problem; Communicates with supervisor on duty about rental maintenance needs and needs of renters, caterers, and musicians; Communicates effectively in written and oral form; Counts and makes change; Spells and accurately types; Operates a personal computer Microsoft Office products and Point of Sale System; Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the Botanical Conservatory staff and administrators, volunteers and the general public; Distributes and obtains facility/exhibit surveys from Conservatory visitors. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Watches for unattended children running free during parties and guests that get out of hand during parties; Uses security person to assist where needed; Identifies person responsible for rental party and introduces self; Directs guests to proper room for party or wedding; Makes sure room temperatures are comfortable; contacts supervisor on call if heating or cooling systems need adjusted; Helps to assure everyone is out by closing; Checks restrooms before and during parties and keeps them clean and stocked; Keeps front hallway clean; Performs or modifies additional table and chair set ups if necessary for rental needs (beyond setups already in place for the rental or program) Helps volunteers with equipment operation as needed; Takes photos of events and rentals; Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisory staff.
