    BUILDING MAINTENANCE & REPAIR WORKER I (PART TIME - IMPERIAL CENTRE) Salary $22.48 - $33.72 Hourly Location NC, NC Job Type Part-Time Department Parks & Recreation Job Number 201800782 Closing 1/4/2019 11:59 PM Eastern DESCRIPTION OF WORK DEFINITION: This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of Imperial Centre buildings. REPORTS TO The Imperial Centre Superintendent assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. JOB REQUIREMENTS JOB REQUIREMENTS: Over site of cleaning and maintenance tasks of all Imperial Centre campus buildings to include supervision of relevant staff and contracts. Maintains electrical lighting fixtures; maintains electrical motors; installs and maintains plumbing fixtures. Assembles or repairs furniture. Assists staff and contractors with installation and repair tasks. Conducts monthly facility safety inspections. Maintains supply inventories in buildings and vehicles. Responds to after-hours emergencies. Changes air filters in HVAC units. Performs other related duties as assigned. HOURS OF WORK: Days, evenings and weekends. Not to exceed 17.5 hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. No experience requirements. Possession of a valid driver's license (Must be able to be licensed in NC). Minimum age is 18. Must have an active and consecutive 3-year verifiable driving history. If less than 3-years, but at least 2-years, the individual must have successfully completed an 8-hour NC court approved driving course(at the applicant's expense). Driving history will be checked. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of cleaning tasks & processes. Knowledge of the repair of electrical fixtures and outlets. Knowledge of the installation of plumbing fixtures. Knowledge of fire extinguisher operation and maintenance. Knowledge of division policies and procedures. Knowledge of safety principles and practices. Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions. Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships. Skill in setting priorities for competing projects. Skill in performing mathematical calculations. Skill in interpersonal relations. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Imperial Centre Superintendent assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include division policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related building repair and maintenance activities. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position. The hours of work also add to the complexity of this position as hours are dictated by the needs of the facility. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to participate in the repair and maintenance of Imperial Centre buildings. Success in this position provides well-maintained facilities for the activities of the Imperial Centre. PERSONAL CONTACTS : Contacts are typically with other City personnel, contractors, vendors, and members of the general public. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
