This is an exciting hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. The position provides real-world work assignments, which give interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff. The position requires a commitment to teamwork and a desire to provide superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The Public Information Intern position involves a great deal of writing. The intern works directly with the City's Communications Team to create press releases, social media messages, feature stories for a variety of publications, public service announcements and other written duties as assigned. Other opportunities are available through the internship, including on-camera work with the audio-video specialist for public access television. SALARY: $15.64 $25.03/hour OPENING DATE: 10/11/2018 CLOSING DATE: 10/25/2018 A minimum of 20 hours per week is preferred. DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Content Strategy and Social Media Analyze and evaluate the performance of content. Develop an analytics dashboard for various content. Assess key performance metrics sourced from the City's 36 social media channels to best display metrics. Additionally, support in best practices for City's social media standards and project storyboarding. Provide real-world experience preparing the intern for an analyst role post-college. Will build experience by collaborating with and presenting to internal stakeholders. PR Archive / Historical Data - Identify, catalog and archive pertinent historical documents, media files, books, newspaper clippings and historical materials pertinent to the history of Santa Clarita. Assist with important City milestones. Will learn and gain knowledge of City history and enhance their skills in PR. Assist Communications team with creative promotional ideas, research activities and press initiatives for groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, special events and the annual State of the City luncheon. Assist Communications Team with copy writing/proofing, maintenance of social media calendar and community calendar. Education and Experience College senior, graduate student or recent graduate from a four-year university Major/majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English or RTVF Knowledge and Abilities Excellent oral and written communications Excellent customer services and presentation skills Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities Creative problem-solving skills Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community Perform operations with minimal supervision Valid California Driver's License Additional Information An online completed City application is required to apply for this position.
