The City of Santa Fe Springs seeks applications for Part-Time Public Safety Officers. This is a part-time, non-benefited position. A Part-Time Pubic Safety Officer ensures the safety and security of City facilities, grounds, and parks, responds to calls and conducts investigations. Examples of Duties / Knowledge Skills Under general supervision, the part-time Public Safety Officer; responds to calls throughout the City; Interviews victims and witnesses and prepares accurate crime reports. Collects and secures evidence; performs traffic accident investigations. Provides support to police officers and fire suppression personnel. Performs traffic control during emergency situations. Assists the public with various issues, including criminal, civil, city business, and other related questions. Monitors and patrols City facilities, grounds and parks to enforce safety and security; secures and locks City facilities; enforces and monitors local, state, and vehicle code violations; issues parking citations; Resolves complaints request from city staff, residents businesses, and performs related duties as required. Minimum qualifications Requirements The ideal candidate will possess a combination of qualifications that provide the equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of: Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including penal, municipal and vehicle codes. Departmental policies and procedures. Emergency response and preparedness programs and procedures. Law enforcement practices and procedures. Interviewing techniques. Public relations practices; court/judicial system; radio communication codes. English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Modern office procedures and equipment including computers. Word processing and other related software applications. Safety practices, procedures, and regulations. Ability to: Provide information to the public. Analyze problems; identify alternative solutions and project consequences of proposed actions; implement recommendations in support of goals; Research, analyze, and evaluate service delivery methods, procedures and techniques. Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Enforce local, state, and vehicle codes. Perform investigations; effectively interview witnesses, and secure evidence; Patrol City facilities and grounds. Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports. Maintain a variety of records. Work with accuracy and attention to detail; Work independently in the absence of supervision. Interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people and other agencies. Effectively organize and prioritize assigned work, multi-task. Identify and respond to community issues, concerns and needs. Conduct training and make presentations to city organization and public. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Follow written and oral instructions. Operate and use modern office equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. A typical way to obtain these would be: High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California supplemented by college level coursework in a related field. Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred. Two (2) years of law enforcement experience or current employment as a PSO Apprentice. A valid State of California driver's license and an acceptable driving record. CPR and First Aid certificates. PC 832 Arrest and Firearms course certificates.
