Job Description
RPD is accepting applications for three (3) temporary exempt positions in class 3286 Recreation Coordinator.
CAMP OFFICE MANAGER: The broad duties of the Camp Office Manager are to assist the Camp Mather Manager in providing a safe, clean, well-functioning camp for the enjoyment of the 500 weekly guests, on-site concessionaires, 70+ staff, and day-use visitors. The Office Manager has specific duties as well as additional duties as assigned by the Camp Mather Manager. The Camp Office will be the “Go To” place in case of emergencies. POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS OF STAFF Employees are expected to follow the policies as described in the 2023 Camp Mather Pre-Hire Policies. Failure to follow these policies may result in termination. WORK CONDITIONS AT CAMP MATHER Housing and Meals: During employment, FREE meals and housing is provided to camp employees. Camp staff live in shared housing with other camp staff.
Nature of Work: Includes working both indoors and outdoors, exposure to sun, snow, rain, high/low temperatures, and potential wildfire smoke, and will regularly encounter insects.
Work Schedule: Work schedule to be determined. Shifts includes weekends and evenings. Overtime may be required.
Work Location: Camp Mather is located in the High Sierra near Yosemite National Park about 3 hours east of San Francisco.
Transportation: Camp Mather employees are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from Camp Mather. Parking is available for personal vehicles. Public transportation and Rideshare Apps (Uber/Lyft) is limited and is not a reliable source because of our remote location.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE March 18, 2023: Tentative start work date - training in San Francisco May 13 - 21, 2023: Arrival at camp. Saturday, Sunday and Monday are mandatory workdays - the two off days will be scheduled during the remainder of the week. September 24, 2023: Conclusion of camp assignment
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND EXPERIENCE: 4000 hours of experience leading recreational activities, performing recreational support services, and/or facility monitoring (experience as a security guard is not qualifying as facility monitoring).
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: Valid California Driver's License (which will be entered into the DMV Pull Notice Program)
SUBSTITUTION: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year for year basis. Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal to 2000 hours. Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Business Management, Physical Education/Kinesiology, Performing Arts, or Visual Arts may substitute for 2000 hours of experience as described above.
