    Job Description

    Essential Duties:
    Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings.

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to:

    • Provides routine preventative and continuity care to adult and/or pediatric patients; this may include complete history and physical examinations.
    • Orders diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, E.K.G.’s, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests.
    • Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty.
    • Provides urgent care to acutely ill patients.
    • Acute care planning for patients in an inpatient setting.
    • Assesses and diagnosis, develops treatment plans, and furnishes medications.
    • Counsels and educates patients, and collaborates with healthcare team.
    • Consults with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions.
    • Documents medical records, and adheres to patient privacy.
    • Participates in staff meetings and conferences regarding patient care, as well as quality improvement/control activities.

    The 2328 Nurse Practitioner (All Specialties) may perform other duties as assigned/required.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    1. EDUCATION: Possession of a Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited college or university; AND
    2. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
    3. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
    4. LICENSE: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
    5. CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization: * American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) * American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) * Pediatric Nursing Certification Board * National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the Women’s Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties * American Association of Critical Care Nurses
    6. SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS:
    • CERTIFICATION: Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association. ****

    • ADULT SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, or Acute Care NP.

    • JAIL HEALTH NURSING/CORRECTIONAL FACILITY SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:

    * **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP or Women’s Health NP; **AND**
    
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** The ability to obtain Security Clearance from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department.
    
    • EMERGENCY CARE SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    * **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, or Acute Care NP; **AND**
    
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Possession of a Furnishing and dispensing number (or ability to pass the credential process within 90 days of hire); **AND**
    
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
    
    • FAMILY PRACTICE SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Family NP.

    • FORENSIC MEDICAL SERVICES SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Women’s Health NP, Acute Care NP or Pediatric NP.

    * **NOTE:** Positions at the Child and Adolescent Support Advocacy and Resource Center (CASARC) require Family NP and positions at the Rape Treatment Center (RTC) require either Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Women’s Health NP, or Acute Care NP
    
    • LONG TERM CARE/GERIATRIC NURSING SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as an Adult NP or Adult Gerontology NP, **AND**
    
    *  **EXPERIENCE:** Six (6) months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of work experience as a Health Care provider treating patients in a long-term care facility, skilled nursing facility, or other acute long term care setting
    
    • OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, or Occupational Health NP; **AND**
    
    *  **EDUCATION:** Completion of coursework in Occupational Health (Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Ergonomics); **OR**
    
    *  **EXPERIENCE:** Minimum of six (6) months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of Occupational Health experience; **AND**
    
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Certified as a Medical Examiner by The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners
    
    • PEDIATRIC NURSING SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Family NP or Pediatric NP
    
    • PSYCHIATRIC SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health NP; **AND**
    
    *  **EXPERIENCE:** One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic or mental health center
    
    • SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION:
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, or Women’s Health NP; **AND**
    
    *  **EXPERIENCE:** One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience in a setting that treats HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Infections
    
    • TRAUMA SPECIALTY
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Specialization as an Acute Care NP or Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP; **AND**
    
    *  **CERTIFICATION:** Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association
    
    • WOMEN'S HEALTH SPECIALTY
      CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Women’s Health NP, Family NP, Adult NP or Gerontology NP.

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

    One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
