    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW AND SCHEDULE  

    The Department is currently seeking a _Graphic Design and Outreach Coordinator _to join the Department’s Outreach Division. The person in this position will help design outreach materials and deliver nonpartisan election-related information to the public. Work hours will generally be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, with overtime (15 or more hours) likely required in the weeks surrounding each Election Day. The Graphic Design and Outreach Coordinator may need to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds. 

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES   

    While working with personnel in the Department’s Outreach Division, the person in this position will:  

    • Develop consistent design for flyers, brochures, forms, newsletters, signs, etc. 
    • Develop outreach materials for a wide range of voter and potential registrant populations 
    • Create engaging, accurate, and consistent slideshow presentations for in-person and recorded delivery  
    • Produce clear digital content and attractive design elements to be featured on the Department’s website and social media 
    • Help publicize upcoming election dates and deadlines and election-specific news for each election 
    • Find creative ways to advertise opportunities to get involved in election work and processes 
    • Plan and conduct voter education presentations for local audiences, including vulnerable or hard-to-reach voter populations 
    • Provide answers to common election-related questions from voters and members of the media 
    • Provide general clerical support and perform other election-related functions, as necessary

    SALARY: $28.55 – $34.70 HOURLY

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

    Two (2) years (equivalent of 4000 hours) of verifiable clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and documents, public contact and gathering information.

    Substitution:  Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours) or the equivalent of 15 units of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of clerical experience

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS   

    The ideal candidate for this position will possess most or all of the following qualifications:  

    • Advanced InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, and web content management system skills 
    • Experience successfully deploying graphic design tools and strategies in public, multilingual settings  
    • Ability to conceive and produce creative educational or outreach materials within established timelines  
    • Strong desire to educate and inspire voters and to encourage potential registrants to participate in elections 
    • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills 
    • Community outreach experience  
    • A valid California Driver’s License to be able to drive to various outreach events
