    Job Description

    9910 LEVEL 3 - INTERN QUALIFICATION: COLLEGE JUNIOR OR HIGHER, AND PREVIOUS INTERN EXPERIENCE. 

    Under supervision of the Outreach Manager, the Public Outreach and Engagement Intern supports communications and outreach for transit service, transportation capital projects and/or SFMTA facilities projects. The position prepares and distributes public information materials; assists with facilitation of public meetings and presentations; and assists with public outreach and engagement activities. This role includes customer service and data entry components. Responsibilities include: 

    EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: •    Assists with drafting and developing written and/or visual content, such as community emails, project updates, blog posts, surveys, videos and presentations. •    Prepares, distributes and posts outreach and engagement materials and customer information collateral •    Posts project information and calendar items on the SFMTA’s public website •    Tracks and responds to project correspondence and constituent feedback using Salesforce •    Tracks and records project media coverage •    Maintains current and accurate computer files, records, databases and contacts lists and generates reports as needed. •    Assists with public meetings, events and public ambassador tasks, such as event planning, developing materials, site preparation and wayfinding assistance •    Assists and participates in department- and citywide outreach events as assigned.

    ADDITIONAL NOTES RELATED TO JOB: A successful intern will be a strong writer and speaker who is comfortable talking to people and can help provide the public with information.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.    Possession of an Associates degree from an accredited college OR 2.    Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public relations, journalism, English, mass communications, public administration, public policy or a related field OR 3.    Current enrollment in a Baccalaureate degree program with major coursework in public relations, journalism, English, mass communications, public administration, public policy or a related field OR 4.    Two (2) years verifiable professional experience in public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, digital media or public relations  DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1.    Oral and written Bilingual skills in Cantonese or Spanish or Filipino, desired 2.    Ability to navigate and use office automation and communications tools, databases, and proprietary software applications (with training) to retrieve and share information, generate data, distribute reports and facilitate public relations activities, including but not limited to: a.    Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)   b.    MS SharePoint and MS Teams c.    Salesforce

    SALARY LEVEL: • 9910 Level 3 - Intern,  $37.4375/hr

    INTERNSHIP TIMING/DURATION •    Not to exceed 1040 hours; flexibility in timing •    Summer only (May/June through Aug/Sept) OR  •    School Year (Aug/Sept through May/June OR •    Summer to Summer (May/June through May/June of following year)

    DIVISION: COMMUNICATIONS Section/Unit: Public Outreach & Engagement Work Location: One South Van Ness, San Francisco, CA

    Interns follow the same telecommuting requirements as all City employees, with a requirement to work onsite at least three days per week (subject to change). Work at the office, fieldwork, outreach events, and field trips all count toward the onsite work requirement.

    Interns will also have free access to Muni for the duration of their internship.

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  All City and County of San Francisco employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Someone is fully vaccinated when 14 days have passed since they received the final dose of a two-shot vaccine or a dose of a one-shot vaccine. Any new hire must present proof of full vaccination status to be appointed.
