Job Description
APPOINTMENT TYPE: This temporary-exempt position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
BACKGROUND: The 9920 Public Service Aide – Assistant to Professionals position in the Public Service Aide series is designed to offer various types of trainee or entry level employment opportunities in a variety of settings. These positions provide an introduction to career options and role models while allowing incumbents to learn about the work environment. Some positions may be allocated for participants in special programs designed to reach disadvantaged youth, those who have encountered difficulty in obtaining employment, or other special populations.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: There is one internship position available with the Office of the Controller’s Accounting Division. The knowledge gained in the internship can be utilized in one of the several classifications within the Accounting Division: 1630 Account Clerk; 1820 Jr. Administrative Analyst; 1840 Jr. Management Assistant; 1649 Accountant Intern.
The Supplier Management Policy Unit (SMT) is in charge of maintaining and updating Citywide supplier records, updating Citywide accounting policies and procedures, and assisting accounting systems training. SMT also supports Controller’s Office Accounting Division in many other areas including data cleanup, financial reporting, interdepartmental billing, and other reconciliation and administrative tasks.
DUTIES: Under immediate supervision, essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
INTERN MENTORS AND SUPERVISORS: During the appointment, Public Service Aides are assigned a Mentor and Supervisor to guide and train them. In some cases, the Mentor and Supervisor can be the same person. Mentors and Supervisors work closely together to provide Interns with comprehensive, quality training.
Qualifications
30 semester units (or 45 quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university.
