    Job Description

    Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Legacy Business Program Manager, the Community Development Specialist will work with programming for the Legacy Business Program.

    The primary responsibility of this person will be to administer the Legacy Business Grant, a new grant program for fiscal year 2021-22. The secondary responsibilities of this person will be to help review and process new applications for the Legacy Business Registry, including assisting with multilingual outreach, as needed. Other essential duties may include assisting in the creation and coordination of broad-based marketing and communications initiatives for the Legacy Business Program, developing and designing collateral materials, enhancing online and social media platforms, and implementing promotional opportunities to raise awareness of the Legacy Business Program. This person may also assist in collecting data and reporting and tracking analytics for the program.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Administer the new Legacy Business Grant program.
    • Assist in the compilation of data and maintaining a database for the Legacy Business Gant.
    • Assist in reporting analytics for the Legacy Business Grant online including websites and social media.
    • Assist with the development of press materials for the Legacy Business Grant.
    •  Assist with content editing and copyediting regarding the Legacy Business Grant, including the development and production of outreach materials such as fact sheets, annual reports, newsletters, and other multimedia materials.

    OTHER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in the review and processing of Legacy Business Registry applications.
    • Assist with outreach to San Francisco’s diverse small businesses, especially Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and/or other marginalized populations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of administrative/professional experience in community development, housing and/or housing development, workforce development, finance, education, social work, children/youth work, criminal justice or elections related work; OR
    2. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the following fields: public or business administration, urban planning, government, social work, education, finance or criminal justice AND one (1) year of administrative/professional experience in community development, housing and/or housing development, workforce development, finance, education, social work, children/youth work, criminal justice or elections related work; OR
    3. Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, planning, social work, public administration, finance, education, criminal justice, or business administration; OR 4.Possession of a Ph.D. or Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university. SUBSTITUTION: VERIFIABLE ADMINISTRATIVE/PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE INVOLVING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, HOUSING AND/OR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, FINANCE, EDUCATION, SOCIAL WORK, CHILDREN/YOUTH WORK, CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND/OR ELECTIONS RELATED WORK MAY SUBSTITUTE FOR THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT IN MINIMUM QUALIFICATION #1 ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish.
    • Ability to build relationships and work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to maintain regular, on-time, and reliable attendance.
    • Ability to work evening meetings on occasion; assist with workshops and seminars, if applicable.
    • Proficiency and knowledge in multimedia platforms including web-based applications and web design, graphic design software, and other office software programs.
    • Proficiency in Drupal, other web editing tools, and social media platforms.
    • Knowledge of policy and the public sector.
    • Knowledge of San Francisco’s neighborhoods, communities, City departments, media, and business and community organizations.
    • Knowledge of issues facing San Francisco’s diverse small businesses, especially Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and/or other marginalized populations.
    • Experience in supporting or managing effective community and/or business engagement campaigns.
    • Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment with daily deadlines.
    • Ability to work as a team and interact cordially with co-workers and the public.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects and tasks efficiently.
    • Ability to clearly explain complex regulations and policy issues to the business community.
    • Ability to handle sensitive cases with discretion and tact and respect the right of privacy and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to use good judgment in making routine decisions in accordance with existing laws, ordinances, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
    • The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
    • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and customer relationship management (CRM).
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.

    • Strong writing and copyediting skills.
    • Strong ability to manage and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, representatives of other agencies, small businesses, and the public.
