    Job Description

    This is a Provisional position. Provisional applicants must participate in a Civil Service Examination for this job classification to be considered for permanent appointment.

    Duties

    1. Conducts individual and group psychotherapy with adults and maintains a caseload of clients, with timely and adequate documentation of diagnosis, plan and treatment provided. Prepares psychological reports presenting diagnostic findings, clinical evaluations and recommendations for the treatment and rehabilitation of adult clients.
    2. Selects, administers, scores and interprets appropriate psychological tests of intelligence, personality, aptitude, and other measures and conducts diagnostic clinical interviews with mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and chemically dependent adults to assess their problems and provide treatment recommendations for clients and other clinical staff.
    3. Provides case management services and care coordination with other providers to maintain stability of clients in their environment and obtain and utilize community resources.
    4. Supervises psychology interns and subordinate clinical staff not including class 2574 Clinical Psychologist. Plans and conducts staff training and development programs and participates in the planning, development and execution of psychology internship trainings.
    5. Participates in best practice implementation and utilization to insure clinical practice standards that are consistent with evidence-based practice. Liaisons with outcomes and quality management to insure clinic alignment with system-wide practices and standards. Participates in the gathering and integration of clinical outcome data to improve clinical practice, and assist in program planning and development

    REQUIRED MINIMUM

    1. Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology as defined in Chapter 6.6 of the Business and Professions Code; Psychologist Licensing Law, Sections 2900-2903, 2914. AND
    2. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (Special Condition).

    These minimum qualifications contain special conditions that may differ from the standard minimum qualifications associated with this class code.

    DESIRABLE

    • Knowledge of principles of clinical psychology, psychological assessment and personality; evidence-based psychotherapeutic methods applicable to adults with mental illness and substance use disorders ; experience working with adults in outpatient community behavioral health setting and the homeless.
    • Ability to effectively carry out methods, procedures, and techniques of clinical psychology including diagnosis, prevention and treatment of psychological problems, mental and substance use disorders of individuals and groups; prepare psychological reports of findings and recommendations; interact with a multidisciplinary team; and provide culturally sensitive services to a wide population of San Francisco residents including Latino and LGBT individuals.
    • Understanding of strengths-based assessment and treatment planning and principle of a wellness and recovery model of treatment.
    • Knowledge and skill in clinical supervision and the provision of clinical training, and provision of psychological consultation to a treatment team.
    • Prior supervisory experience.

    ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR) The Department of Public Health (DPH) is implementing a unified Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and DPH employees must demonstrate competency in the use of the system that is appropriate for their classification as a condition of employment.  

    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) Some positions in the Department of Public Health will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gloves, gowns, eye and face protection, and face-fitting respirators. The requirement for the use of PPE may come on short or no notice. Facial hair or any condition that interferes with a face-fitting respirator’s seal (i.e., weakens the seal between the respirator and the wearer’s bare skin) is not permitted when face-fitting respirators are worn, including during initial or periodic respirator fit-testing.  

    Employees who choose not to shave and do not have either American Disabilities Act (ADA) or Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Accommodations do not have the right to alternate work assignments or the option of using a loose-fitting Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) in place of a Face Fitting Respirator.  

    MEDICAL EXAMINATION Prior to appointment, at the Department’s expense, applicants may be required to take a tuberculosis (TB) screening test, medical examination, and/or drug test.
