  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Under immediate supervision, the Human Services Technician, assists Social Workers and Protective Services Workers in the careful and courteous provision of supportive services to clients of Human Services programs. Services may include but are not limited to care, transportation, supervision of routine visits. According to Civil Service Commission Rule 9, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code(s) and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

    1. Direct care and supervision of minors, ages 0-17.

    2. Transport minors to be medically cleared by a physician and ensuring proper documentation is completed, including the notation of any signs of physical abuse, illness, and/or injury; and obtaining prescriptions for appropriate medication as needed for minor.

    3. Transporting minors to identified out-of-home placement.

    4. Regular interaction and involvement with outside agencies, such as the San Francisco Police Department, Child Crisis, San Francisco General Hospital, Seneca Family of Agencies, and Huckleberry Youth Shelter, Emergency Placement Agencies (AFS FFA/ TRINITY FFA) and SENECA MRT/HUB.

    5. Knowledge of Placement/Admission forms and understanding of how to assist PSWs complete forms upon minor’s arrival at the 3rd Street Office or in the field.

    6. Knowledge of forms completed for out-of-home placement, and uploading documents into the CWS/CMS system. Scanning and Uploading Placement/Medical Forms.  Inputting Contacts/Visits with minors

    7. Inputting of minor Intake information, Car usage and placement information in Intake Log.

    8. Cleaning up after minors, including basic housekeeping and organization of supplies.

    9. Grocery Shopping for supplies for minors being supervised at 3rd St Office.

    10. Supervise routine parental visits following specific instructions from Protective Services Workers, between parents and children in out-of-home placement at the office or other location designated by the Case Manager; receive specific instruction regarding the visits and inform parents of the guidelines and limitation of the visit; observe and record parent/child interaction; terminate visit if parent speaks or acts inappropriately.

    11. Assist in the placement of children by completing forms required for the foster care payment system and foster care information system; assist in gathering the necessary documentation for special board rate requests and renewals and for foster care eligibility renewals.

    12. Maintenance of City Vehicles by taking them to 170 Otis for servicing and cleaning. Regular vehicle Gas Checks. Monthly swapping and sign-out of City vehicle for Mobile Work.

    13. Ability to maintain company laptop and use Outlook, CWS/CMS, upload contact notes and documents.

    14. May include additional duties as assigned

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in a position which has direct responsibility for the care of children in a public or private setting.  An example of qualifying experience would be a childcare worker in a group home or residential treatment facility or teacher’s aide or para-professional in a family and children’s program or school. Babysitting is not qualifying experience.

    LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

    This position requires the possession of a valid California Class C driver license and a good driving record.

    SUBSTITUTION:

    Fifteen (15) semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework, from an accredited college or university, in child development, social welfare, social/human service, sociology, or other social or behavioral science may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the required experience as described above.
