    Job Description

    The City is implementing ServiceNow’s Human Resources Service Delivery module as a central hub for HR processes that are utilized by the City’s diverse workforce at all levels. The Platform Engineer for People Processes and Workflows will work to develop case management and workflow applications as well as portals and reports within the ServiceNow HR Service Delivery platform.

    ** On a typical day you may:**

    • Build and maintain complex workflows and applications on top of the ServiceNow Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) foundation, based on requirements provided by the Employee Journey Product Team.

    • Develop and implement customer and HR partner-facing portals and tools in coordination with the HR webmaster and the HR Policy and Communications team.

    • Participate in architectural and design decisions of products and features.

    • Advise on time estimations and prioritization of work items, in an agile backlog, based on customer need, technical dependencies, and level-of-effort.

    • Write technical documentation describing system architectures and implementations.

    • Document work progress and collaborate with other Employee Journey staff within work management software, Microsoft Teams, and over email.

    • Coordinate testing in a multi-environment ecosystem alongside technical staff, stakeholders, and end users.

    • Plan and execute change promotion from development through production in conjunction with the citywide ServiceNow platform owner.

    • Maintain an ongoing knowledge of the ServiceNow product, version upgrades, enhancements, new features, etc.

    Qualifications

    ** What you know**

    You have:

    • Experience developing and configuring enterprise Platform-as-a-Service ERP, CRM or other tools such as ServiceNow, Salesforce, or Microsoft Dynamics.

    • Knowledge of developing and supporting Platform-as-a-Service products for a diverse user base.

    • Experience building software based on project requirements, user stories, or other documentation.

    • The ability to draft and document test plans for both a technical and business user audience.

    • The ability to be flexible, adaptable, and learn new concepts quickly.

    • The ability to work effectively in a team environment with multiple priorities.

    • Excellent demonstrable written and verbal communication skills.

    • Experience with advanced scripting, performance Analytics, Reporting, and other use case areas is highly desirable.

    • Working knowledge of database architectures and normalization is desirable.

    • Agile project management methodologies and iterative software development lifecycles are desirable.

    ** Qualifying**

    You have a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree (sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter-units) in computer science, information technology, mathematics, or a related field -plus- at least one year of experience in developing applications on top of object-based platform-as-a-service platforms -or- engineering software with a modern programing language such as Python, Rust, Go, Java, or JavaScript; -or- analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing and/or maintaining the components of an enterprise network.

    Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/r forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely related field.

    ** Preferred Qualifications**

    • One or more years of experience developing applications and workflows in ServiceNow.

    • Certification as a ServiceNow Developer or System Administrator.

    • Development experience with ServiceNow HRSD.

    • Experience working as a developer, administrator, or implementer for enterprise human resources information systems (HRIS).

    • Experience with Flow Designer, Workspaces, and UI Designer.

    • Experience configuring ServiceNow HRSD (or other comparable PaaS product such as Salesforce) modules.

    • Hands-on experience in ServiceNow Service Catalog/Service Portal/Employee Center modules (or other comparable PaaS product such as Salesforce).

    ** Compensation**

    Entry compensation for this role is between $131,976 and $165,984 dependent on education and experience. Salary increases every six-months up to top of pay band.

    ** Not your typical government team**

    The Digital HR team is a growing technology team nested within the City's Department of Human Resources. Our DevOps teams, support the full lifecycle of each of the technology products that we acquire and build.

    ** Hybrid work culture**

    We work in a hybrid environment, and you may be expected to work in the office on a regular basis 1 day per week and up to 3 days per week, based on team and project requirements. In-office workdays are flexible and can be tailored to fit your needs as well as the needs of the role.

    ** Exempt employment**

    This role is exempt from the San Francisco Civil Service Rules, and employment is at the discretion of the appointing officer for a period of not-to-exceed three years. (Category 18)
