    Job Description

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Department is seeking applications for a Campaign Services Coordinator position. The person in this position will report to the Campaign Services Manager and serve as a management-support associate responsible for developing election publications, organizing candidate and ballot measure filing processes, facilitating public observations of election processes, and administering public-facing services and programs. More specifically, the Campaign Services Coordinator will be responsible for the following functions:   

     CANDIDATE AND BALLOT ARGUMENT FILINGS: The person in this position will assist in organizing and coordinating intake of ballot initiative petitions, candidate filings for federal, state and local offices, and the intake of ballot arguments related to local ballot measures for publication in the Voter Information Pamphlet. The person in this position will share responsibility for responding to related questions and reviewing submitted documents to ensure that they are complete and meet all legal requirements.

    ELECTION PUBLICATIONS: The person in this position will assist in developing publications such as the “Candidate Guide”, “Guide to Submitting Ballot Arguments”, “Guide to Qualifying Initiative Charter Amendments, Ordinances, or Declarations of Policy”, and related calendars with filing deadlines for all elections, all in compliance with applicable law.  

    PUBLIC INQUIRIES AND REPORTS: The person in this position will assist in preparing responses to voters, elected officials, campaign organizations, legal representatives, and other members of the public related to such topics as election deadlines and processes, candidate or ballot argument requirements, information to be published in the Voter Information Pamphlet or on the ballot, petition processing, etc. This person will also draft responses to public record requests and create reports or other documents related to Department activities.

    OBSERVATION ACTIVITIES: The person in this position will assist in facilitating observation of election activities and processes for interested members of the public, including providing tours of the Department, ensuring observers are following observation rules and responding to questions about election processes.  

    HUMAN RESOURCES: The person in this position will assist with hiring, training, and supervising several temporary clerks who will join the Department’s Campaign Services Division approximately four months before each election.

    OTHER DUTIES: Performs other related duties as assigned.

    POSITION SALARY

    $36.9875 to $ $44.975/hourly

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, accounting, finance, economics, social sciences, education, or related field, or other areas closely related to specific department program or function.

    Substitution: May substitute up to two (2) years of the required education with additional qualifying experience in program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, or contract/grant administration. One year (2000 hours) of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A suitable candidate for this position will have a strong work ethic, a high level of integrity, and a deep commitment to equity and inclusion, as well as a work history that demonstrates an ability to interact well with members of the public. This person will also be able to present complex information in a clear manner and to draft professional written documents and correspondence. In addition, the ideal candidate will have prior experience analyzing and applying California election laws and regulations.
