Electrical Line Helper - Department of Technology (7432)
Job Description
POSITION:
Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and labor based line work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of communication cables and infrastructure for the City’s fiber network, as well as traffic and street lighting systems, transit power lines, and high voltage overhead and underground electrical transmission lines; and performs related duties as required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists cable splicers with job site set up and materials for splicing cable, and the line crew with all construction based projects for underground and overhead cable installation.
• Digs holes and trenches to accommodate wood or steel pole erection as well as junction boxes, vaults, manholes and conduit installation.
• Assists line crew in assembling poles and cross arms; trims trees and removes other obstructions along overhead line right-of-way; preparing materials.
• Performs general housekeeping at maintenance yards, line trucks, and job sites including the cleaning and caring of hand tools, electric tools, and pneumatic tools.
• Assists in the replacement of fire alarm boxes, police call boxes, traffic and street light systems, and overhead and underground cable and wire.
WORK LOCATION:
Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at various City Agencies throughout the City of San Francisco as well some remote CCSF facilities outside of the City and County of San Francisco. The incumbents primary reporting and dispatch location will be 200 Paul Ave., San Francisco, CA 94124.
NATURE OF WORK:
Candidate must be willing to work a 40-hour week as determined by the department, including mandatory rotations at Swing Shift (3:00pm - 11:00pm) and Graveyard Shift (11:00pm - 7:00am). Travel within San Francisco may be required.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Possession of a high school diploma or proof of successful completion of an equivalency test (G.E.D or California High School Proficiency Examination); AND
Two (2) years of full time verifiable general electrical and mechanical work experience in maintenance/construction.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession and maintenance of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a current valid California Class C driver license.
NOTE:
MEDICAL TESTING: Prior to appointment, eligible candidates must successfully pass the TB testing process.

SALARY RANGE:
Rates Effective: Jul 01, 2021 - Jan 07, 2022: $39.4875 - $48.0000 (hourly)
Rates Effective: Jul 08, 2022 - June 30, 2022: $39.6875 - $48.2375 (hourly)
