Job Description
We are seeking skilled stationary engineers to operate, maintain, and repair a wide variety of state-of-the-art pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment for the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join the staff of a world class institution.
APPOINTMENT TYPE: This recruitment is for a Temporary Exempt (TEX) /As-Needed position. This position is exempt from the civil service rules pursuant to the San Francisco Charter Section 10.104 and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer. The anticipated duration of this project position is six (6) months or 1040 hours and will not result in an eligible list or permanent civil service hiring. Exempt employees are considered ‘at will’ and serve at the discretion of the department head.
NATURE OF WORK: Incumbents will be assigned to on-call shifts at the de Young Museum (50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr, San Francisco, CA 94118) or the Legion of Honor (100 34th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94121).
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility. Ensures that all equipment, machinery and systems are functioning normally and safely, and complies with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four (4) years of verified journey-level stationary engineer experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of a variety of mechanical and electrical pumping, heating, air conditioning, ventilating and related plant machinery used in a government establishment, hospital, industrial, production or commercial building; AND
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License; AND
Possession at time of hire a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
SUBSTITUTION: (ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE REQUIRED EXPERIENCE)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring:
Experience working in a museum or at a cultural institution.
Experience with the requirements for working near high value art or around fragile and/or valuable materials.
Ability to interact with the public and customers in a professional manner.
