    Job Description

    Under supervision, as an Asphalt Worker, you will perform various Asphalt duties in connection with street maintenance and repair projects.

    Important and Essential Duties:

    Your duties as an Asphalt Worker may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Removing old pavement and preparing surfaces for repaving with the use of pneumatic tools.
    • Preparing surfaces for asphaltic mixture by coating the edges with an asphalt emulsion.
    • Shoveling, raking, and spreading hot asphaltic material in the repair and resurfacing of streets.
    • Compact and smooth asphaltic patches using a hand roller or vibratory plate.
    • Operate Asphalt Kettles, automatic emulsion spray rakes and/or tool heaters.
    • Placing and removing appropriate traffic control devices, including cones, signage, and barricades and clean up job site upon completion of work.

    Nature of Work: The nature of the work will require sustained physical effort involving considerable standing and bending, use of hand and pneumatic tools, lifting objects weighing up to ninety (90) pounds, exposure to hot asphaltic mixtures, disagreeable weather conditions, working conditions where moderately serious injuries may occur, and may require the use of a respirator based on work performed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:
    One (1) year of verifiable experience in construction and/or street paving and repair work as an Asphalt Worker.

    AND

    License:
    Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.

    Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid State of California driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role.

The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
