    Job Description

    Under the general supervision of the Director of Older Adults- Behavioral Health Services, the Clinical Psychologist performs the following duties:

    • Conducts individual and group psychotherapy with older adults and maintains a caseload of clients, with timely and adequate documentation of diagnosis, plan and treatment provided.
    • Prepares psychological reports presenting diagnostic findings, clinical evaluations, and recommendations for the treatment and rehabilitation of adult clients.
    • Selects, administers, scores, and interprets the MoCA or other assessments for clients with cognitive impairment, conducts diagnostic clinical interviews, determines differential diagnosis of dementia or other psychological impairments, and provides treatment recommendations for clients and other clinical staff.
    • Carries a caseload and provides clinical case management and care coordination services with other providers to ensure clients are safe and stable in their homes or other supportive housing.
    • Plans and facilitates training with topics specific to older adult care. May participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of psychology interns.
    • Coordinates with members of AOA SOC in developing dementia care groups and/or programs including partnering with local, and state community partners to further develop resources for older adults in accordance with the State’s Master Plan for Aging. 
    • Participates in best practice implementation and utilization to ensure clinical practice standards are consistent with evidence-based practice for older adults.   Provides clinical consultation and guidance on older adult diagnostic needs, and connects clients to other community resources as needed.
    • Participates in the gathering and integration of clinical outcome data to improve clinical practice, and assists in program planning and development
    • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    • Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology as defined in Chapter 6.6 of the Business and Professions Code; Psychologist Licensing Law, Sections 2900-2903, 2914.

    DESIRABLE*

    • Experience in diagnosing, conducting psychotherapy, carrying, and managing a caseload of clients with psychological, medical, and cognitive impairments
    • Knowledgeable in principles of clinical psychology, gerontology, and other social and environmental factors that impact older adults.
    • Experience working with clients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, limited English proficiencies. These clients may also have persistent behavioral health issues in addition to multiple medical, mobility, and cognitive impairments.
    • Knowledgeable in the principles of clinical psychology and treatment of older adults with mental and cognitive impairments in outpatient community behavioral health setting.
    • Understanding of strengths-based assessment and treatment planning and principle of a wellness and recovery model of treatment.
    • Knowledge of Avatar, Epic, CalAIM, and other local and state regulations in clinical practices.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
