    Job Description

    The Manager of Community Engagement will be responsible for community engagement efforts and events for the Office of Transgender Initiatives (OTI). The position will manage the office’s Transgender Advisory Committee (TAC); develop, track and implement the office’s community engagement efforts; and plan, coordinate, and implement key annual events in collaboration with community and City stakeholders. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Transgender Initiatives. This position is hybrid in-person/remote.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Manage the office’s Transgender Advisory Committee (TAC), a group of local trans and non-binary leaders that offers guidance to the Office of Transgender Initiatives (OTI), the Mayor’s Office and elected officials on the needs of trans and non-binary and San Franciscans. This includes scheduling, planning and facilitating meetings, planning and coordinating the onboarding and off boarding of TAC member, ensuring compliance with established TAC policies, facilitating the development of new/revised TAC policies, as needed, facilitating decision-making among various stakeholders; and liaising with TAC members to encourage ongoing engagement.
    • Plan, coordinate and evaluate the Transgender Advisory Committee’s efforts to ensure alignment with the TAC’s and OTI’s annual objectives. Some examples include planning, coordinating and evaluating ongoing progress of subcommittees, and the annual Trans Advocacy Week.
    • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of written materials and reports related to community engagement, community needs and/or inequities. For instance, compile background information in preparation for the TAC’s annual recommendations, outline findings and recommendations regarding existing inequities and/or gaps in services, and present materials to various groups.
    • Coordinate and/or assist in coordinating and/or planning key annual community events with community and/or City and County stakeholders, such as Transgender Day of Remembrance, Transgender Day of Visibility, Trans March, and more.
    • Serve as liaison with trans and LGBTQ+ community members and groups; represent OTI at community events and meetings; respond to community questions and concerns in-person and in writing in alignment with the Office’s policies and values.
    • Assist in the development of OTI’s communications, including drafting social media content, drafting talking points for public speaking engagements, and more.
    • Use computer applications, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software (i.e. Power Point, Google Slides), databases, survey development tools, and social media
    • Prepare clear, well-organized and accurate documents such as memos, reports, and correspondence
    • Develop written surveys to compile community input
    • Seamlessly manage multiple projects with a variety of timelines, prioritizing tasks according to urgency and the Office’s needs, while ensuring work is completed within deadline
    • Manage responsibilities and deadlines with little supervision, showing accountability and dependability with colleagues and stakeholders
    • Speak clearly and concisely in order to express ideas and communicate with a variety of individuals and groups
    • Listen, ask appropriate questions and effectively elicit information
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    1. Possession of a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, accounting, finance, economics, social sciences, education or related fields, or other subject areas closely related to a specific departmental program or function; AND

    2. One (1) year full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level management and/or administrative duties in functional areas such as: program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, development and administration of contractual agreements and/or grants, or other closely related functional areas.

    Substitution: Applicants may substitute up to 2 years of required education with additional qualifying experience in program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, or contract/grant administration. . One year (2000 hours) of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.

    COMPENSATION: $87,386 to $106,184 annually
