Job Description
ABOUT TEAM:
The Department of Technology’s Public Safety division operates and maintains several critical systems such as 911 Radio, Fiber, Emergency Alert, crime prevention camera, burglar alarm, fire alarm call box, PBX’s, VoIP phones and other in-building wiring and other similar systems.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs journey level cable repair and troubleshooting tasks relative to installation and maintenance of communication, data exchange, monitoring, and alarm systems owned or subscribed to by the City and County of San Francisco. Installation, splicing, terminating and maintenance of CAT5/6 cable, fiber cable, PBX’s, VoIP phones and other in-building low voltage work.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
JOB APPOINTMENT TYPE:
One (1) temporary-exempt full time and Six (6) temporary as-needed (on-call assignments) for up to a maximum of 1040 hours are excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process. The successful candidate shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer. This position has an anticipated duration of up to thirty-six (36) months.
WORK LOCATION:
Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at various City Agencies throughout the City of San Francisco as well some remote CCSF facilities outside of the City and County of San Francisco. The incumbents primary reporting and dispatch location will be 200 Paul Ave SF CA, 94124.
NATURE OF WORK:
Candidate must be willing to work a 40- hour week as determined by the department. Travel within San Francisco may be required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Specialty B : Four years experience working in the telecommunications industry as a Technician, Installer, Central Office Technician, Wireless Technician or Private Branch Exchange Technician. AND
Possession of a current valid Driver License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performance of essential duties require: considerable physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; excellent visual acuity; exposure to inclement weather and working conditions that are somewhat disagreeable in underground locations; the use of ladders and aerial lift bucket; and lifting of up to 50 pounds of equipment.
NOTE:
1. MEDICAL TESTING : Prior to appointment, eligible candidates must successfully pass the TB testing process.
2. SECURITY CLEARANCES AND BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS : Positions in this classification may require that successful candidates who become eligible for appointment may be required to go through a background investigation to determine the candidate’s suitability for employment in this classification. Factors considered in the investigation may include employment history, use of illegal/controlled substances. Reasons for rejection based on this investigation may include, but not limited to: applicable convictions, repeated or serious violations of the law, inability to accept supervision, inability to follow rules and regulations, falsification of application materials and/or other relevant factors. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination.
