    Job Description

    The Press and Digital Assistant reports to the Communications Director and is responsible for supporting the administrative operations of the Mayor’s Office of Communications. The Press and Digital Assistant also supports the Office’s goal of managing internal and external communications activities for the mayor. The Press and Digital Assistant must be detail-oriented, work well independently, work well with team members from diverse backgrounds, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Draft and send media advisories, press releases, and ICYMI announcements for City departments
    • Draft some of the mayor’s talking points for public and private events, including social media posts as needed
    • Support with copy editing daily Q+A, briefing materials, talking points for the Mayor’s public appearance, in a concise and consistent format.
    • Manage scheduling for the Communications Director and other Deputies as needed.
    • Assist digital team on content creation and special projects as needed, including crafting constituent responses and drafting and publishing blogs and other news and events items on phila.gov.
    • Distribute daily press clips on a rotating schedule
    • Answer Mayor’s Communications Office’s phone line and help monitor and traffic inquiries to the Office’s press@phila.gov account
    • Monitor Mayor’s public correspondence email account
    • Support Associate Communications Director on managing the City’s MailChimp account 
    • Identify press clips that should be promoted on social media and draft social media posts
    • Manage special projects as needed
    • Assist Deputy Communications Directors and Associate Communications Director with coordinating logistics for press events

    COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle simultaneous priority projects and meet established deadlines
    • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines
    • Ability to work well with different team members and manage lateral reporting relationships
    • Ability to be nimble and adjust to fast moving changes on a daily basis
    • Ability to effectively and succinctly communicate complex concepts
    • Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills
    • Ability to anticipate public reaction
    • Experience crafting messaging and communications campaigns
    • Must be able to work extended hours on an as-needed basis
    • Familiarity with, and understanding of, City of Philadelphia municipal operations and departments desired
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • At least one year of experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, constituent services, and/or campaign communications
    • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • Familiarity with earned media
    • Familiarity with or understanding of local government is preferred
    • Bilingual preferred but not required

    Salary Range: Up to $50,000
