    Job Description

    The Innovation Management team is looking for an intern to help manage and oversee the daily activities happening in the City of Philadelphia’s Innovation Lab. The Innovation Lab is a key piece of the City’s overall plan to build an infrastructure of innovation within municipal government. Once two separate meeting rooms, the Lab is now a fresh, bright, technology-enabled space in the Municipal Services Building where City employees and external stakeholders can meet to think creatively and generate solutions to the City’s most pressing problems. The intern will serve as the primary on-site contact person for City employees utilizing the Innovation Lab, as well as help the Innovation Management team conduct quantitative and qualitative research on what is happening in the national field of municipal innovation.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Helping City employees and partners access the Lab, including but not limited to unlocking and locking the room, using the providing technology and devices, and managing the general flow of employees working in the space • Providing technical training and assistance to people holding meetings and events in the Lab • Maintaining and monitoring the equipment and devices kept in the Lab, as well as general room upkeep, including alerting Innovation Management to any issues • Explaining the mission and purpose of the room to employees and visitors • Conduct a field scan that highlights best practices, measurements, opportunities for improvement and unique programs happening nationally in the field of municipal innovation.  

    DESIRED SKILLS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS • Self-starter who can proactively seek out opportunities for professional and programmatic development • Experience with research and writing reports • Strong organization, writing and communication skills, including public speaking and presenting information • Comfort interacting with high-level officials • Interest in government, program management or public policy • Working knowledge of technology, including computers, TVs and tablets, preferred but not required

    • CANDIDATE MUST BE A COLLEGE JUNIOR OR SENIOR
    • 20 hours a week
    • $15 an hour
    • The position is located in Center City, Philadelphia and candidate must be able to work the full 20 hours on-site – no part of the position can be done remotely. Additionally, the 20 hours/week must be completed between the hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm, preferably Monday – Thursday.
    • Ideal candidate will be able to commit to a six month period.
