    Job Description

    The Chief of Staff is a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic leader, with a strong knowledge of the philanthropic community and the political landscape in Philadelphia. This position will work as a member of the Executive Team to help guide the overall direction of the agency. This position is responsible for managing research, program design and development, and grant-writing activity in support of meeting the goals of CEO’s Strategic Framework. This position reports to the Executive Director and works very closely with the Deputy Executive Director of Culture, Compliance, and Organizational Infrastructure and the Director of Policy to help maximize the effectiveness of agency investments and fulfill the mission of CEO. The Chief of Staff will preserve CEO’s positive reputation with external partners, City departments, and stakeholder groups, and promote high ethical conduct effectiveness and inclusion throughout the organization.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Collaborate and provide meaningful support to Executive Director with the development of new programs and investments to execute CEO’s Strategic Framework
    • Direct supervision of Senior Policy Staff
    • Oversee research on best practices around plan strategies;
    • Lead efforts internally to create the annual plan update and related events
    • Manage research, communications consultants, volunteers, and paraprofessionals
    • Manage logistics with external convening bodies, including the Oversight Board and working groups
    • Assist with the development of grant proposals and other efforts to secure resources to support the citywide equity and anti-poverty plan
    • Ensure a high-quality data collection system
    • Support the integration of internal programs and external partnerships
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Four (4) year college degree required
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • 7+ years of progressive management experience required
    • Equivalencies in formal advanced degree and experience will be considered
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and exercise the authority of the position with sound judgment
    • Previous work in non-profit or public sector is ideal
    • Strong development or policy background is a plus

    • Strong leader with a proven track record of fundraising success
    • Independent self-starter
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and exercise the authority of the position with sound judgment
    • Detail-oriented
    • Ability to manage complex and long-term projects
    • Ability to anticipate and meet deadlines
    • Ability to support staff and model best practices
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills is a must.
