Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) Intern
Job Description
The Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) is the outreach and education entity of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission. CPI has been offering bi-annual classes since 2010 to educate Philadelphians about city planning and encourage residents to learn more about creating a more livable, green, and sustainable Philadelphia. Successful graduates completing the required hours of classes receive a Certificate of Completion as a Citizen Planner. The program has 700 graduates, who represent 18 of the 18 planning districts of the city.
The CPI internship position is for 10-20 hours per week and is for an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in learning about how this program may be more effective, and the role of city planning in general. This work/study or academic credit position has flexible start and end dates. The intern’s duties may include, but may not be limited to the following: ▪ drafting Citizen Planner stories for the CPI website and updating the website, ▪ assisting with Alumni Committee activities, ▪ assisting with fall course development including after-class evaluation forms, recordings and session summaries, ▪ development of program metrics and mapping, ▪ updating research on planning academies nationally, ▪ assisting with Department trainings and development of educational videos, ▪ developing a summer newsletter.
Hybrid and Remote work available.

WORK-LIFE
Working hours are generally 12-20 hours per week. Our team is currently hybrid with both virtual and in-office days, however there are also remote options
Qualifications
Minimum undergraduate, prefer graduate level. The position would suit an enthusiastic detail-oriented student interested in community planning and citizen advocacy issues with good communication skills. Basic MS Office proficiency required. GIS skills are preferred but not required. Experience working in or with diverse community organizations a plus. If academic credit is preferred, the Director will work with the intern to ensure the scope of responsibilities meets his/her objectives and interests. Interested candidates will go through an interview process.
