    Job Description

    • Comprehensive Plan Reconciliation Topic Paper
    o Once the Comp Plan team returns the outline the subcommittee developed with comments, the Reconciliation subcommittee will begin work writing the section, as part of Phase 2 of the Existing Conditions Report (ECR) topic papers.
    § This may take the form of a Storymap or other interactive web-based application that details the history of racial discrimination in and related to City Planning in Philadelphia.
    § Intern tasks may include research & analysis, writing, and annotation.

    • Update and Expand the Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) History of Planning document: https://citizensplanninginstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/History-of-Planning-LTR.pdf
    o Work with the Reconciliation Subcommittee to brainstorm content and structure
    o Research, analysis, writing, and graphics associated with completing the document
    Exposure
    DEI as planning concern and potential policy avenues.
    Skills
    Historical and comparative research, writing, ArcGIS Online.

    Health Projects

    • Comprehensive Plan Health Topic Paper
    o Assist staff with drafting a Storymap or other interactive web-based application that details the intersection of Public Health and City Planning in Philadelphia. This product should highlight current issues and disparities, while building out research-based approaches City Planners can take to address issue. The final product should also summarize current steps being taken to reduce historic impact and recommended additional steps that can be taken.
    • Health Research
    o The DEIH Intern will work with the Planner Supervisor and Community Health Planner to help build staff knowledge of Public Health literature as it intersects with City Planning.
    § Housing
    o Quality

    Essential Functions

    Assist the Planner Supervisor, District Planner, and Community Health Planner with ongoing research. Develop summary work products to inform planning policy discussions. Must be able to work from the office at least one day per week.

    Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel. Strong and clear communication skills. Ability to simplify complex topics. Research experience preferred. Experience with Comprehensive Plans, Zoning/Municipal Code, and municipal government preferred. Experience with Public Health, Healthcare, or Social Working preferred.

    Qualifications

    Be a current student at an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Minimum 2+ years in an Undergraduate Program or 2+ years of equivalent work experience.
