    Job Description

    Ideal candidate would be someone interested in a career in the law looking for greater exposure to the functioning of the judiciary while obtaining a law degree, or immediately after completion of law school. Potential for job growth and additional work responsibilities, including trial work, legal research, and drafting opinions. Short-term employment options available.

    This is specialized work functioning as a personal aide to a member of judiciary in the Criminal Trial Division, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Important aspects of the job involve assistance to courtroom operations, providing essential connection between chambers and courtroom, file preparation, and performing various other duties as assigned. An employee in this class is directly responsible to and serves at the discretion of the appointing judge.

    Essential Functions

    The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

    · Maintains chambers filing system.

    · Manages judicial correspondence and other office paperwork.

    · Searches for and studies legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration.

    · Assists judicial law clerk in setting up court matters and file preparation.

    · Legal research and writing projects available to an employee who is interested in receiving those additional assignments.

    Performs related duties as required.

    Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    · Strong organizational skills.

    · Working ability with business-style writing & proofreading.

    · Working ability with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive

    · Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a self-directed fashion.

    · Ability to learn and apply, within a reasonable period of time, the components and functions of criminal courtroom proceedings and related computer systems.

    · Ability to learn trial procedures, rules, and regulations required to facilitate court proceedings.

    · Ability to follow written and oral directions and to communicate effectively.

    · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members of the judiciary, attorneys, associates, employees, and the general public.

    Qualifications (Education and Experience)

    1. High school diploma or equivalent.

    2. Three years of legal secretarial experience

    OR

    3. Equivalent combinations of acceptable training and experience providing the characteristics required to perform the essential functions of the class may substitute, with a minimum of three years of administrative secretarial experience.

    4. Demonstrated commitment to public interest is a plus.

    5. Appropriate experience in the use of Windows Software applications.

    6. Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.

    7. Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class.

    8. Covid-19 vaccination recommended.

    Salary Range: $43,207 - $47,350
