    Job Description

    This is interviewing and verification work in which the most significant aspect is full-time contact with arrested individuals and others knowledgeable about them. The selected candidate will conduct face-to-face or video interviews and perform telephonic investigations to obtain factual information that will be presented to a judicial authority for an appropriate release decision. The work differs from other clerical series in the First Judicial District in that it involves considerable contact with the general public and is oriented toward a specific task and targeted result. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative superior. Assignments require evaluative thinking and are performed in accordance with standard interviewing practices and established routines.

    The Pretrial Bail Interviewing Unit operates 24/7/365. Employees of this class are categorized as essential personnel and must report to work during court closures, weekends, and holidays. Employees work non-traditional shift rotations and varying hours, including evening, overnight, and early morning hours.

    Essential Functions

    • Receives requests for court records from lawyers, court officials and the public.
    • Fills out forms and applications after verbal inquiries or from handwritten instructions.
    • Sorts and files papers and/or legal documents in a pre-established filing system.
    • Performs routine data entry functions to retrieve information from court computers.
    • Uses standard office equipment to record, store, retrieve, duplicate, or present information.
    • Directs the public to appropriate departments based on simple inquiries.
    • Ability to give information clearly and concisely.

    • Interviews arrested individuals for obtaining personal, employment, and prior criminal histories.
    • Verifies residential addresses supplied by arrested individuals via telephone contact with provided references.
    • Retrieves and evaluates court history data, such as individual’s court appearance records, pending charges, and prior criminal records from a computerized database.
    • Additional assignments may require file maintenance and telephone verifications.

    Work-Life

    Working hours are 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, in person position with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university,

    OR

    1. An associate degree, or 60 college credits, and at least 1 year’s full-time criminal justice experience or two years part-time experience,

    OR

    1. A high school diploma and 4 years full-time criminal justice experience

    AND

    1. Appropriate experience in the use of personal computers and Windows software applications.
    2. Ability to work varied shift assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    3. Successful completion of a background investigation.
    4. After meeting minimum application requirements by a panel review, must complete an evaluation and interview.
    5. City residency is required within one year from date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.
    6. COVID-19 Vaccination is recommended.

    Salary Range: $36,516 - $39,691
