    Job Description

    The Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP) of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) is seeking a dynamic and experienced public health professional dedicated to improving the lives of Philadelphia residents for the position of Injury Prevention Program Manager. This position is for an experienced, visionary public health professional with expertise in injury prevention to join the leadership team of the division as we develop and expand our injury prevention program with an immediate focus on gun violence prevention. Future work will also focus on alcohol and crashes. Together, these public health challenges are a major cause of early death, disability, and health disparities within the city. The qualified candidate will possess the experience and knowledge base to lead the division’s work in these areas, as well as the interpersonal and communication skills needed to carry out work that will be collaborative and cross-departmental in nature.

    Essential Functions

    • Guides public health approach to gun violence prevention and prevention of injuries in the city.
    • Builds effective relationships with community groups and across city departments and agencies to collaborate on injury prevention work, particularly gun violence reduction.
    • Reviews existing literature and policies on topics related to injury prevention, building evidence-based agenda for policy, systems, and environmental change.
    • Oversees work of the injury prevention team (currently 3 staff and growing)
    • Takes a data-driven approach to injury prevention, including consistent evaluation of the effectiveness of our work in this area.
    • Oversees analyses of existing data sources on violence and injuries in the city
    • Works with Division Director to build evidence-based agenda for policy, systems, and environmental change related to injury prevention.
    • Works with division staff and leadership as well as other city agencies, departments, and external stakeholders to carry out a city-wide agenda for injury prevention.
    • Leads several established city-wide coalitions of different evidence-based violence prevention models, including a hospital-based violence intervention (HVIP) coalition and a violence interruption program coalition.
    • Leads the firearm homicide review team, integrating data from multiple sources to develop recommendations for effective prevention.
    • Monitors federal, state, regional, and local governments for legislative and regulatory initiatives related to injury prevention.
    • Prepares written or oral reports interpreting and detailing relevant legislative and regulatory developments for departmental review.
    • Helps inform local government legislation related to injury prevention.
    • Collaborates with existing national, regional, state, and local injury prevention programs.
    • Monitors outcomes and effectiveness of injury prevention program strategies
    • Serves as a representative for the Division on injury prevention issues, including actively engaging in and speaking at conferences, participating in internal and external coalitions and working groups, etc.
    • Participates in national networks addressing similar policy priorities; writes comments/responses to state and federal injury prevention related rules and regulations.
    • Develops talking points for injury prevention policy events and drafts editorial comments for local, regional, and national press on injury prevention policy issues.
    • Participates in grant writing and manuscript development for peer-reviewed journals.
    • Secures relevant grant funding and manages large grants for injury prevention initiatives.
    • Manages the injury prevention budget and contracts, navigating city processes for both.
    • Performs related work as desired.

    Work-Life

    Working hours are generally 37.5 hours per week with occasional evening meetings. Our team is currently hybrid with both virtual and in-office days, however the person in this position can opt to come in the office each day if desired.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Masters in public health, Public Policy, or Public Administration

    AND

    Minimum two years of experience in injury prevention.

    Prior experience with injury prevention program and policy evaluation preferred.

    OR

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the reviewing committee.

    Additional Information

    Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000
