    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under general supervision, is responsible for performing professional work related to storm water engineering. May supervise the activities of other engineering staff. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment.  Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff, if needed.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs detailed and reviews of plats, building permits, Master Development Plans (MDPs), capital project, and/or floodplain submittals.   
    • Utilize sound engineering judgement to promote public health, safety, and welfare.   
    • May supervise professional, technical, and other employees in the review of plats, building permits, Master Development Plans (MDPs), and floodplain submittals.   
    • Attends preliminary plan review and design progress meetings.  
    • Coordinates with engineers representing developers, individuals, and government agencies.  
    • Participates in technical committees related to drainage and floodplain management.  
    • Advises other City departments on matters related to technical engineering issues.   
    • Coordinates with other governmental and review agencies (other City departments, San Antonio River Authority, San Antonio Water System, Texas Department of Transportation, etc.).  
    • Utilizes software and database programs as required to complete tasks and monitor service level.  
    • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.  

    • Four (4) years' experience in engineering.  

    • No substitution for education allowed.  

    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas

    • OR Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) from another state with the ability to obtain a P.E. license in the State of Texas within 6 months of employment..   

    • Valid Class 'C' Texas driver's License.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).  
    • Four (4) years' experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.  
    • Four (4) years' experience with land development and permitting.
