  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Under general direction, is responsible for performing civil engineering work assisting the Assistant Director in directing the principal engineering staff of the City. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Assists the Assistant Director in the supervision of professional, technical, and other employees of the Engineering Division in the development and design of principal public works projects. 
    • Provides technical engineering advice and assistance to the City Engineer and other City departments. 
    • Recommends approval of plans and specifications for construction contracts. 
    • Assists the Assistant Director in the development of budgets and in public works programming. 
    • Interprets administrative policies; composes instruction, policy, and procedural revisions; composes correspondence; and represents the City Engineer at conferences and meetings. 
    • Coordinates preparation of reports, including recommendations concerning various municipal or departmental problems. 
    • Facilitates quality infrastructure through cooperation with public utilities. 
    • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by the Texas State Board of registration for Professional Engineers. 
    • Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering, to include three (3) years’ experience in municipal public works projects. Supervisory experience is highly desirable. 
    • No substitution for education allowed. 
    • Licensed to practice engineering in the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer. 
    • OR Must obtain a license to practice in the State of Texas within six (6) months of employment.
    • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience in Construction Management of street and drainage capital projects. 
    • Experience and knowledge in construction inspections and quality control. 
    • Experience in the study of Time Impact Analysis (project delays) and construction schedules using the Critical Path Method.
