    Under general supervision, is responsible for performing inspectional work and enforcing compliance for new construction, remodeling, alterations, repairs, moving, or demolition of structures to ensure compliance with the City adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Exercises no supervision. 

     Essential Job Functions:

    • Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code, NFPA 99C, TECQ requirements as applicable and the Unified Development Code. 

    • Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explains and interprets building codes and regulations. 

    • Issues verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances. 

    • Documents inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software. 

    • Responds to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes, zoning, and the Unified Development Code. 

    • Inspectional work requires communication by a variety of methods and may include sitting standing, reaching, walking, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing ladders of any height and may lift/carry up to 50 pounds at work sites. 

    • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
    • Four (4) years of experience in plumbing construction and repair.
    • Possess journeyman plumbing license issued by the State of Texas.
    • Must obtain a TX state license as a Plumbing Inspector within six (6) months of employment.
    • Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Plumbing Inspector within eighteen (18) months of employment.
    • This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
