Central * Description * Benefits * Questions Job Summary Under general
supervision, is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and
minor repairs on emergency vehicles. Exercises no supervision. Essential
Job Functions * Performs preventative maintenance work including
changing oil and other fluids, greasing joints, and replacing oil and
air filters on emergency vehicles. * Performs minor repair work on
alternators, brakes, belts, hoses, starters, and windshield wipers;
performs other maintenance duties. * Completes paperwork required for
work orders. * Conducts safety checks on all emergency vehicles. *
Assists in repairs and adjustments to emergency vehicles. * Assists
higher level mechanics on project work. * Transports vehicles of all
types to work locations or repair vendors. * Performs inventory,
monitors check out/check in of parts, and identifies salvageable parts.
- May repair or change tires and wash emergency vehicles, as needed. *
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job
Requirements * High school diploma or General Education Development
(GED) Certificate equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency
or a regional accrediting agency). * Minimum of six (6) months of
experience performing essential job functions listed above which could
include experience gained through a technical training program. * Must
obtain Texas "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90)
days of employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * EVT Certification(s). *
ASE Certification(s). * One (1) year of heavy equipment mechanic and

substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of
higher education or one year of related higher education for two years
of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One
year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per
week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit
hours completed at an accredited college or university. * Applicants

must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and
background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor
vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be
conducted. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Physical requirements include
frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; visual acuity, speech and
hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to
operate several types of emergency vehicles and emergency vehicle
equipment. Subject to walking, lifting, kneeling, standing, and stooping
to perform essential functions. Working conditions are primarily in an
outside or shop environment with frequent exposure to temperature
extremes, dust, damp/wet surfaces, high noise levels, oily surfaces, and
hazardous equipment. May require shift work, weekends, nights, and
holidays. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Knowledge of operating
characteristics of emergency vehicles. * Knowledge of occupational
hazards and standard safety precautions, practices, and procedures. *
Knowledge of tools, equipment, and diagnostic testing devices used in
emergency vehicle repair and maintenance. * Knowledge of emergency
vehicle systems maintenance and repair procedures. * Knowledge of
principles and practices of record keeping. * Knowledge of maintenance
and repair scheduling techniques and procedures. * Knowledge of
automotive troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures and techniques. *
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in
writing. * Ability to perform automotive and emergency vehicle repairs
and maintenance. * Ability to diagnose defects and repair needs on a
wide variety of automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. * Ability to
operate all tools and equipment used in emergency vehicle equipment
repair. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships, with employees, supervisors, and the general public. *
