This class differs from the Principal Planner class in that the Principal Planner has overall responsibility for a major planning section. Examples of Duties Analyzes and evaluates development plans, projects and studies; oversees and participates in the collection and analysis of data pertaining to population characteristics, land use, housing characteristics, land and building valuations and other data; directs minor surveys to develop phases and objectives of planning projects; organizes and attends meetings with neighborhood groups to answer questions and provide information regarding planning for the neighborhood area; develops solutions to planning problems and prepares written recommendations and supportive presentation materials; reviews and analyzes new or pending legislation relating to urban planning activities; develops and/or modifies legislation necessary to resolve planning problems; assists and guides property owners proposing environmental changes within the Historic Districts; provides staff support to the Historic District Commission; disseminates planning information and meets with external planning groups, boards, commissions, citizens, agencies and departments; reviews technical and graphic illustration work prepared by related classifications for assigned projects. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in urban planning, regional planning or an acceptable cognate plus two (2) years of planning experience; or graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in planning or an acceptable cognate plus five (5) years of progressively more difficult planning experience.
