    Family Services Specialist I Working TitleFamily Services Specialist I - CPS Department/DivisionHuman Services - Child Services Job TypeFull Time -Requisition ID: 25079 Work Location: Human Services - Virginia Beach Blvd offices Pay Range: G.22, $45,552.00 - $67,600.00 Starting Salary: Minimum of the Pay Range Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm Part Time Hours/Wk: Application Deadline: 4/9/18 Job Duties: Caseload Management -Manage a high volume, high stress caseload -Demonstrate ability to make independent decisions based on knowledge of policies and procedures -Enter detailed, accurate investigative narratives and summaries in OASIS -Utilize psychological principles when working with children and families -Educate families about Child Protective Services and community services and resources -Develop and implement service and safety plans Mandated Investigations/Assessments -Conduct mandated screening of child abuse/neglect complaints -Respond to referrals within mandated timeframes, including working night-call shifts -Conduct thorough field investigations and family assessments of child abuse/neglect allegations -Assess risk factors involved with child abuse/neglect -Demonstrate crisis intervention skills and de-escalation techniques -Prepare, file, and present affidavits before the court -Testify for court proceedings including criminal hearings -Conduct and prepare courtesy interviews for other localities -Apply laws/state policy for child abuse/neglect Reporting -Present accurate case information -Demonstrate strong communication skills (oral and written) -Utilize supervisory staffingsand legal consultation as needed; -Present cases to the Family Assessment and Planning Team -Provide accurate monthly statistics on cases Organization -Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills -Assess and prioritize tasks effectively -Demonstrate the ability to use office technology, including detailed computer systems, copy machines, and fax machines Training -Attend training on learning topics pertaining to child abuse/neglect -Complete state mandated CPS training Note: Caseload responsibilities are assigned to Family Services Specialist I contingent upon completion of mandated training, experience, and supervisory approval Official City Job Description: https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/human-resources/Employment-VBGOV/Job%20Descriptions/Family_Services_Specialist_I_02307.pdf Minimum Requirements: MINIMUMS: Must possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a human services field (social work, counseling, gerontology, guidance and counseling, family and child development, psychology or sociology); or possess a Bachelors degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two (2) years related experience in a human services area. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver?s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver?s license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. For Family Mediation Unit: Virginia Supreme Court Certification in Family Mediation required.
