The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Works is recruiting for Planner IIs who will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to, helping prepare technical reports, making public and staff presentations, understanding and interpreting the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)/National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and helping the acquisition of regulatory permits from various State and Federal agencies in support of Public Works projects and routine maintenance activities. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1 ) Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment. 2) Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Minimum Requirements Education: A Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Geography or a related field is required. --AND-- Experience: Two (2) years of professional level land use/environmental planning experience involving comprehensive land use planning, environmental planning, or site design planning. Substitution: A Master's Degree in one of the required fields may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of environmental analysis, with strong understanding of CEQA. Strong writing, critical thinking, and decision-making skills are a plus for the position. Experience with regulatory permitting and regulatory agencies is also desirable.
