CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. 2) Shift: Incumbents may be required to work, or to be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights. On-call employees must be able to report for duty within one hour after being notified. 3) License: A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. 4) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation, and the incumbent can expect to work rotating, night, weekend, day, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends. Minimum Requirements EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of full-time paid experience in a law enforcement forensic laboratory with expertise in performing analysis, comparison and identification of typical forensic samples in the following: Firearms/Toolmarks, DNA/Serology, Trace Evidence, Toxicology, Solid Dose Drug Analysis, or Alcohol Analysis. --AND-- EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree (or higher) in a natural or physical science, criminalistics, or a closely related field is required (per ASCLD/LAB accreditation standards). Coursework must include the following: at least eight (8) semester (12 quarter) units of general chemistry, AND nine (9) semester units which included coursework in genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology, AND either coursework in population genetics or coursework or training in statistics.
