As a Property Assessment Specialist I, you will perform work in real and personal property ownership and assessment for taxation purposes. You will be responsible for collecting, verifying, and classifying data for property tax assessments and analyzing complex questions on reassessments. You will also be responsible for performing mathematical calculations, handling regularly scheduled deadlines, responding to public inquiries regarding reassessments, appraisal procedures and assessment laws, tax bills, change of ownership, valuation problems and the operations of the Assessor's office. IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of the California Revenue and Taxation Code as it relates to property assessment as well as recent laws affecting property assessment. This position handles a high volume of customer service, both face-to-face and over the phone; as such, the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, function calmly in challenging situations, and the ability to provide prompt, efficient, and responsive customer service will be valuable in this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Thirty (30) units of coursework towards a college degree in real estate, business, economics or a closely related field from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency; OR, * One (1) year of experience in real estate, property appraisal, real estate escrow or title, or building contracting; OR, * Two (2) years of clerical experience in an Assessor, Recorder, or County Clerk's Office, with responsibilities that include processing recordable documents, institutional exemptions, leases, or other property documents relevant to change of ownership or business personal property account management.
