    2019 - Land Surveyor II (SR-24) Salary Depends on Qualifications Location Maui County (various), HI Job Type Permanent Full-Time Department Department of Public Works Job Number 2019 -Land Survey II Closing Continuous Description SR-24 (Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range from $4,968, SR-24/C, to $7,073, SR-24/L, per month at which appropriate qualified applicants can be recruited). Does the most difficult and complex professional field and office work in connection with land title, boundary, and Land Court Application surveys; prepares and supervises the preparation of complex land title, boundary , and subdivision maps and metes and bounds descriptions; and performs other duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from that of Land Surveyor I in that the Land Surveyor II has responsibility for difficult and complex assignments in land title, boundary and Land Court Application surveys; whereas, the Land Surveyor I either conducts less complex land surveys and title and boundary determinations or assists a higher level professional surveyor in the more complex assignments. Examples of Duties The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position. In the field , serves as chief of a survey party for the most difficult and complex title and boundary surveys, including classification and detail surveys of large tracts of publicly-owned lands and private lands related to County interests, Land Court application and File Plan, and right-of-way surveys, subdivision, construction, and topographic surveys; such surveys involve proper land title and boundary establishments, proper correction of old magnetic surveys to true azimuth surveys, conversion of azimuths taken from two or more triangulation stations to an azimuth based on one point of origin, and triangulations and traverses to a high degree of accuracy; occasionally, triangulations to the first order of accuracy may be involved; establishes street and highway monuments; conducts road, pipeline and right­of-way surveys, setting bench marks and taking profiles and cross sections. In the office, makes or supervises research , the making of calculations necessary to complete surveys, determines corrections for magnetic surveys, and prepares final plans or maps of the field survey work; makes studies and reports and does research work on the most difficult Land Court Application and File Plan cases; prepares or supervises the preparation of land title, boundary, classification, detaiI and contour maps, and metes and bounds descriptions and reports; prepares data from survey or official maps and Land records for condemnation proceedings, Land Patents, deeds, exchanges, executive orders, proclamations, appraisals, leases, damage claims and civil suits involving County interests. Minimum Qualification Requirements Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geodesy or Engineering with at least six semester credits in surveying and three years of professional land surveying experience which shall have included responsibility to perform research on land boundary matters as a regular assignment. Substitutions Allowed: Successful completion of a course of study in Engineering Technology at an accredited community college which included at least 2 courses in surveying and in addition, two years of surveying experience which included the use of the theodolite and/or electronic total station and level may be substituted for the educational requirement described above. Excess work experience involving the application of surveying principles, techniques, practices and terminology and which demonstrated the ability to operate theodolites, electronic total stations, transits, levels and other survey instruments and the ability to do research on land boundary matters may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Satisfactory completion of all academic requirements for a master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university may be substituted for six (6) months of experience. License Requirement: Possession of a Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Land Surveyor and possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's Iicense (type 3). Knowledge of: survey principles; problems and practices as applied to topographic, construction, land title and boundary surveys, including geodetic, precise triangulation and precise-level surveys; surveying mathematics sufficient to adjust angles by the method of least squares, to compute geodetic positions of old or new third , second or first order triangulation stations; Land Court regulations, rulings, and decisions; land title boundary, and related acts, particularly those pertaining to subdivision of public lands and right-of-way surveys; the problems, techniques and practices involved in tracing and re-establishing boundaries and titles of old Hawaiian grants and Land Commission awards made by magnetic surveys; engineering reference works, sources and tables required in higher mathematics; the proper use, limitations, operation and adjustment of complex surveying instruments and equipment; drafting and computing equipment ; principles and practices of supervision. Ability to: use, adjust, and maintain complex surveying instruments and equipment, including precise levels, transits, electronic total stations and theodolites; supervise the preparation of the most complex land title, boundary, and subdivision maps and metes and bounds descriptions for official records or for presentation to the Land Court or other courts; supervise and plan the work of subordinate professional surveyors and aids.
