Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Data and Research Officer the Data Analyst Intern will be responsible for supporting the Department of Revenue’s data analysis, data visualization, decision support, and reporting needs. This work includes data entry, data cleaning, data verification, data purification, some database management tasks, ad-hoc report writing and auditing, dashboard design, preparing presentations, and other assigned tasks.
Essential Functions
Assist senior analysts with ongoing and ad-hoc projects, reports and analysis requests.
Project Support Includes:
Data entry, cleaning, preparation, and preprocessing.
Designing, deploying and maintaining data extraction-transformation-and loading processes.
Exploring and highlighting trends and correlations in data.
Preparing preliminary reports, summaries, graphs, and visuals.
Quality assurance of data management and analysis related tasks.
Office Tasks Include:
Documenting project milestones.
Working with datasets, ideally using SQL query syntax.
Responding to customer service inquiries.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This role will support various projects, teams, and deliverables.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is crucial.
Understanding data structures, database systems, data analysis tools is desired.
Entry-level experience with GIS, SQL, R, Python, SPSS/SAS, and Business Intelligence tools strongly preferred.
Desire for public service and a willingness to learn are keys to success.
Qualifications
Less than 1 year of relevant experience in financial reporting, data visualization, statistics, public policy, economics, analytics, computer science, or other related fields. Including candidates actively pursuing certification, undergraduate, or graduate degree.
Relevant coursework and/or professional experience will be considered.
