Summary The Graduate Healthcare Administration Training Program (GHATP)
Board invites interested and eligible VA employees to apply for this

program is a primary source for developing highly-trained healthcare
administration professionals who provide staff support to key healthcare
management officials within VA medical facilities or VISNs. GHATP
trainees participate in a structured training program designed to

Program is a 12-month experience under the preceptorship of a
Medical/VISN Center Director. The12-month cycle for the program is June
to June. The program requires a high degree of analytical ability and
specialized knowledge of the basic principles and practices related to
the management of health care delivery systems. Other areas addressed
through the training program through mentor's guidance may include the
following: · Studying policies establishing medical center, VISN and VHA
committees/governance. · Participating in committees and task groups,
fill acting roles and complete projects contributing to this objective.
· Examining Congressional and VHA budget processes, including
participation in local budget development and execution. · Rotating
through the Quality Management/Performance Management, Risk Management,
Patient Safety, and Utilization Review program areas. · Composing
responses to congressional inquiries to learn the relationship of
medical centers and congressional offices. · Rotating through services
or programs of special interest. · Completing Personal Development
Plan/Individual Growth and Learning Plan. Trainee must also complete the
following targeted developmental assignments during the program: three
book reviews, three executive interviews, a shadowing assignment, an
acting supervisor position rotation, a leadership development team
assignment, an individual project, serve as a facilitator, involvement
in community, and development of public speaking skills. NOTE: All GHATP
program requirements must be met for successful completion of the

the following: Maintaining current knowledge of the fundamental
practices, principles, and programs related to healthcare delivery
systems. Demonstrating knowledge of various healthcare administrative
areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement. Application of
regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing
groups. Compiling information for reporting purposes. OR B. Substitution
of Education (GS-09): You may substitute education for all or part of
the required experience. A master's degree, equivalent graduate degree
or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education
leading to a master's degree in hospital administration, public health
administration, or other related fields within healthcare
management/administration would meet the full qualification requirement.
An MBA or MPA may be accepted if at least two (2) healthcare courses
were taken prior to completion of the degree. Usually 18 semester hours
is equivalent to one full year of graduate study, unless otherwise
