The position is located in one of the eight medical centers in the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) which has responsibility for operating all Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facilities within North Carolina and Virginia. The primary duties of the Security Assistant are to serve as the Primary Card Issuer and /or Registrar (PCI) for the Personal Identity Verification (PIV)M system. The Security Assistant works closely with Human Resources Service to foster a cooperative environment that is essential to the orderly and efficient accomplishment of the program's goals. Position Description/PD#: Security Assistant (PIV Program Assistant)/2812 Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Duties The incumbent serves as the Primary Card Issuer and/or Registrar (PCI) for the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) system as implemented per HSPD-12 and initiated through FIPS PUB 201-1. The incumbent performs credential personalization operations and issues the identity credential to the applicant after all identity proofing, background checks, and related approvals have been completed. The PIV Issuer is also responsible for maintaining records and controls for PIV credential stock to ensure that stock is only used to issue valid credentials. Individuals assigned to the PIV Issuer role shall meet the applicable requirements established by an official accreditation process. -The PIV Issuer shall be responsible for maintaining the completed and formally authorized PIV Request, the approval notice from the PIV Registrar, the name of the PIV credential holder (applicant), and the credential identifier. - The incumbent performs credential personalization operations and issues the identity credential to the applicant after all identity proofing, background checks, and related approvals have been completed. -The PIV Issuer is also responsible for maintaining records and controls for PIV credential stock to ensure that stock is only used to issue valid credentials. -The incumbent will keep track of active cards as well as lost, stolen and expired/disabled cards. A card registry for all cards issued shall be established and maintained. -Incumbent is required to have access to and utilize the VA PIV Enrollment Portal.
